Simplifying access to employee benefits in the hospitality industry

Named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in the Dining category, Oyster Sunday launched OS Benefits in 2023 — a platform designed to give hospitality owners access to a curated range of employee perks through a streamlined digital experience. With branding developed by Astrid Stavro, the project called for a technical partner capable of translating the visual identity into a robust and scalable product. We rebuilt the experience from the ground up, replacing a fragmented manual process with a fully automated platform designed for growth.

Seamless onboarding for every business

At the heart of OS Benefits lies the registration experience, designed to transform what was previously a manual, time-consuming onboarding into a seamless, automated flow.

Users are guided through four intuitive steps — account creation, subscription selection, employee data entry, and payment — with every action designed to feel effortless. Behind the scenes, the system immediately takes over: new employers and employees are automatically subscribed to Mailchimp with customized tags based on their selected benefits. Simultaneously, full subscriber lists are sent to third-party providers, granting users immediate access to their perks without the need for human intervention.

The result is a registration process that removes operational friction, scales effortlessly, and frees the Oyster Sunday team from repetitive tasks.

Crafting a flexible and reliable payment architecture

Supporting a dynamic subscription model required a payment system that could offer both precision and flexibility. On the frontend, we implemented Stripe Elements to deliver a secure and frictionless checkout experience. Behind the scenes, subscription management is handled through Laravel Cashier, allowing the platform to manage complex billing operations with reliability and scale.

Employers can modify their subscription at any time — adjusting their plan, adding or removing employees, or swapping add-ons — with the system automatically recalculating prorated charges for the remaining billing cycle. This depth of integration ensures that businesses can adapt their benefits offering to match their staffing needs without disruption, maintaining a consistent and accurate billing process throughout.

A tailored experience for every employee

Once registration is complete, users access a personalized dashboard displaying the benefits available under their chosen subscription. Each perk is organized by category and accompanied by a dedicated page explaining how it can be redeemed, creating a straightforward and accessible experience for employees. The platform also allows the Oyster Sunday team to integrate each business’s internal benefits, ensuring that employees see a complete, customized view of all opportunities available to them.

Building a system with design integrity at its core

To balance performance with design integrity, we separated the marketing website and the user dashboard into two distinct applications. This approach kept the public-facing site lightweight and optimized for speed, while the dashboard was engineered to handle authentication, employee management, and payment operations with greater complexity. Both applications are managed through a shared headless CMS, enabling the editorial team to build and update pages consistently across the platform.

We also developed a modular library of components that offers editors creative flexibility within strict brand guidelines, maintaining visual coherence while supporting a range of layouts and content types.
